Computer Simulation of the High-Velocity Motion of Electron Bubbles in Superfluid Helium
نویسنده
چکیده
We have performed computer simulations of the motion of electron bubbles through superfluid helium. The helium is modeled through the use of a modified version of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We find that by the time the bubble reaches the velocity at which vortex nucleation occurs the shape has changed significantly from spherical.

Stabilization of Multi-electron Bubbles in Superfluid Helium
Multielectron bubbles (MEBs) in liquid helium were first observed in the late 1970s, but their properties have never been explored experimentally due to their short lifetimes and the difficulty to localize them. We report the observation of longlived MEBs in a novel cell filled with superfluid helium at static negative pressures. MEBs were extracted from the electron filled vapor sheath of a he...
متن کاملAcademic and Research Staff B. Velocity Distribution of Atoms Evaporating from Superfluid Helium
We have been using molecular-beam techniques to study superfluid liquid helium and other systems at low temperature. The following helium beam experiments are in progress. 1. Measurement of the cross section of 4helium atoms for collision with both 4helium and 3helium at low temperatures (D. E. Oates). 2. Measurement of the velocity distribution of atoms evaporating from helium II at low temper...
متن کاملExploding electron bubbles The first observations of excited electron bubbles in superfluid helium reveal some puzzling features From
The “particle in a box'' is a standard second year quantum mechanics problem, much beloved by lecturers and mastered by successive generations of undergraduates. An electron bubble in liquid helium provides a strikingly simple example of this kind of system, and theory predicts that it should exhibit a series of excited states. But these states have never been demonstrated experimentally. Now D...
متن کاملSimulation of a Helium Atmospheric Plasma Jet Using Fluid Equations
In this study, a cold atmospheric He plasma jet is investigated. The jet is of dielectric barrier discharge type, consisting of a dielectric tube with two metal ring electrodes. The continuity, momentum and energy conservation equations as well as the Poisson equation for obtaining the potential and the electric field, accompanied with the ideal gas laws, are used for the simulation. The result...
متن کاملTrajectory Planning Using High Order Polynomials under Acceleration Constraint
The trajectory planning, which is known as a movement from starting to end point by satisfying the constraints along the path is an essential part of robot motion planning. A common way to create trajectories is to deal with polynomials which have independent coefficients. This paper presents a trajectory formulation as well as a procedure to arrange the suitable trajectories for applications. ...
